Label-Change: Less talk about emissions, more talk about pollution

I don't know how we started getting hung up on "emissions." "Capping emissions." That's too effeminate to really ring true with Red America. That's like "going on a diet." Like "cutting back on carbs" or what not. Going "green" is like going vegetarian. Sorry, not going to fly. Here's what you say:

"Mr. Limbaugh (or Mr. O'Reilly, or Mr. Hannity, whatever), I'm a libertarian, and have been for years, even before it became popular recently. And what I really hate is when people infringe on my right to breathe clean air and drink clean water by polluting it. I believe that everybody should be free to do whatever they want so as it doesn't infringe on the freedoms of others. I believe in the campsite principle. You know the campsite principle? Leave the place better off than when you found it."

Last-Word: The only sentence you should need to end a global warming discussion

I'm posting this for future reference because I keep having to look it up:

Since 2007 no scientific body of national or international standing has maintained a dissenting opinion about the fundamental findings of human-influenced global warming.
(source)

There is no debate. The deniers keep trying to make global warming a controversy, just like they try to cast evolution as a controversy.

Label-Change: Instead of "skeptics," call them "deniers"

For some reason, "skeptic" is an English word meaning "smart."

So instead, call people who deny the fundamental findings of global warming by all national science organizations for what they are: "deniers."

Quick-Rebut: 2,000 Nebraska cattle die in heat wave

It's really annoying when global warming deniers point to a city here or there that has really cold temperatures in the summer. We need to rebut with our own individual data points. Here's one:

Roughly 2,000 Nebraska cattle die in heat wave - A mature cattle nearing slaughter is worth around $1,000. I doubt those ranchers are going to be receptive to anybody who denies global warming. Furthermore:

Heat waves usually strike somewhere in Nebraska every two or three years, but last week's heat was unusual because of how soon it struck and how quickly cattle died
One thing you could call into the radio with is, "Haven't you noticed heatwaves are getting longer and hotter, and that winters are shrinking?" In other words, appeal to the opposition's trust of anecdotal evidence. The deniers don't care about statistics. If they did, they would have already been convinced.

For future reference, if a global warming denier spouts another single data point, simply do a Google News search for "heatwave" and you'll find plenty of rebuttals.

Quick-Stats: Californians consume 40% less energy per person. Why?

Obama pulled up these big numbers about California and energy efficiency:

In the late 1970s, the State of California enacted tougher energy efficiency policies. Over the next 3 decades, those policies helped create almost 1.5 million jobs. And today, Californians consume 40% less energy per person than the national average. Which over time has prevented the need to build at least 24 new power plants.
